I got this concert as a birthday present from my husband. We had to travel to Dusseldorf, Germany for it, but we're lucky that it's not so far from where we live.

The concert was awesome, Taylor Hawkins (drummer) is great, he sang Cold Day in the Sun, not a bad voice. I was so happy that they also played old songs, not only songs from new album. And my husband could enjoy the concert, especially when they played Skin and Bones.

Opening act: Flogging Molly, a unique rock country band.

This will be out this month. I ordered it in bol.com and they promised to send it on 18 November. That's earlier than the release date.

They were in Oberhausen last Sunday. Too bad I couldn't make it to go there. I hope they will serve their fans in Holland next year.

The Police Reunion Tour

My husband is a big fan of Sting and The Police.
So when The Police had their reunion tour in Amsterdam Arena, we were definitely there.

The opening act was a band called Fiction Plane, which is led by Joe Sumner, Sting's son. The band played nicely, Joe has his father's voice. I feel bad for that guy, he will always be associated with his father, no matter if he likes it or not.

The Police played greatly, still I think they played as 3 different individuals, not really as one. Old famous numbers were played, we had fun and my favorite song was King of Pain.

It's official!
Satellite Party will be the third act of Pearl Jam in the Park.
I was surprised to see that Nuno Bettencourt, the ex guitarist of Extreme is one of the band member. The vocalist is Perry Farrell, from Jane's Addiction.

I've just listened to some of their songs. Not bad.

I have been listening to this CD: Skin and bones, an acoustic live CD from Foo Fighters. It's so awesome, I always love how beautiful songs become when they're played acoustically.

Mean while since last week I started reading this biography of Dave Grohl : Nothing to lose, which I bought in Ipswich, England last year. It's so interesting to follow his life since Scream, Nirvana and now Foo Fighters. He's such a decent and fun guy.

Incubus has been forced to postpone the remaining dates of their European tour and planned South American tour (complete list below) as the result of an injury to guitar player Mike Einziger’s hand. It has been determined by Mike’s doctors that surgery is the most viable option for enabling a fast and full recovery. The expected healing time is 8-12 weeks.

I was quite late to watch Duke Spirit, the opening act. Good, because I didn't have any mood to watch them.

After 3 guys who went to the top of the podium for light effect, the band finally showed up. I stood quite close to the podium, I could see Brandon clear, Mike not so clear, DJ Kilmore and Jose- if I got very lucky-, but I could see Ben the most. He was very nice, smiled along the show.

When AKTSOF was played, everybody -who was mostly teenage girls and boys- started jumping and pushing each other. I was pissed off and decided to move aside to the people who looked my age or older, who didn't act stupidly like calling Brandon in every end of the songs, like this girl who screamed, "Brandon, marry me!"
Yeah, right.

Brandon didn't say much, only "F**k ya, we're glad to be here" blablabla. He said they're happy because after this they would be more relaxed before continuing the tour on 18 in Prague. He didn't communicate with audiences, he sang false in AKTSOF, but the whole show was a blast. Drive in accoustic version made me shivering and Wish you were here made me sigh, hoping that my birthday friend, Adhe, was there with me.

Sick sad little world and Circles were played awesomely. Brandon played jembe in SSLW and performed his famous light gloves. I still don't get it why they chose Megalomaniac as their last song. I really miss Privilige, Pardon Me and Warmth, I hope they will play them in June...

I have always and will always feel a responsibility to give you my best. At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best. That’s why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110% that I feel I owe you and want to give you.

Some of the issues surrounding the 2007 Van Halen tour are within my ability to change and some are not. As far as my rehab is concerned, it is within my ability to change and change for the better. I want you to know that is exactly what I’m doing, so that I may continue to give you the very best I am capable of.

This will be my first post in year 2007. What a shame!
So far there have been a lot of things happened in my music life:

- Light Grenades, Incubus' new album was out and listened over and over
Nice album, but it sounds soft. It seems so personal, it could be Brandon's own experience after he broke up. My favorite is Rogues. Dig is nice, the lyrics is so touching, about friendship and stuff.

- Incubus requested their fans to make a video clip for Dig
The finalists are announced in the website of I dig Incubus. The band chose the videos themselves and people can vote for the winner.

- I wanted to buy VIP package
It's a package offered by Make Yourself foundation, which give you a chance to meet the band. It was sold on ebay. I asked a member in Incubus view forum to bid with me since the package is for 2 persons. Unfortunately, there came something that made us cancelling the bid. It's painful, but maybe next time....

- Incubus opens Pearl Jam!
Yes, I bought the ticket today, my husband will go with me as well. Pearl Jam will perform in Goffertpark, Nijmegen along with 3 other bands. One of them is Incubus! Unbelievable.

- They're ill
I suspected it when I saw the video in I dig Incubus, when they had to announce the finalists. Ben was not there and Brandon looked awful. They had to cancel the concert in Detroit until they all get well.

After six years finally Pearl Jam will come to Europe. I saw last year that they had concert in England and I also saw that they will be in two festivals in England. I hadn't know that they wil also perform in Holland until I heard the news from the radio. I was so excited about it and I hope I can get the ticket which will start on sale tomorrow. With that ticket I can buy the latest CD with only 14,99 euro on cdticket.nl.

My friend showed me a nice website called Liveplasma.com, which is "a new way to broaden your cultural horizons according to your taste in music and movies." If I type tonic, it will give kind of atoms or list of bands that has the same music type as Tonic. I have to say that the list suits me good. The bands that are similar to Tonic according to Liveplasma are Dishwalla, Goo Goo Dolls, Lifehouse, Train, Sister Hazel, etc.

I could only watch Top 100 Rock All Times until 34, it was Maryln Manson with The Beautiful People. The chart was 10 hours, too bad I couldn't follow it until it finished.

I relieved that Nirvana is number 1 (Smells like teen spirit), followed by Metallica (One), Rage Against The Machine, Guns 'n Roses and Pearl Jam. I was surprised that Van Halen was not on the list. Actually I don't know who composed the chart, maybe local MTV people, because there are also Dutch bands on it.

It's not so bad though, remembering that this country is not so into rock....

Yeah, thanks to MTV!! My rock knowledge is getting better than before MTV came to the place I live. Although it's Rocktober, you can't expect that the whole day will be rock on tv. Last week I watched the vocalist search of Velvet Revolver. After looking around, finally they met Scott Weiland who just resigned from Stone Temple Pilots. He has to fight against his drug addicts and the other band members helped him through it.

Yesterday MTV played MTV Unplugged with Nirvana, followed with concert of Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl has developped from a quite band drummer in Nirvana into an awesome leader of Foo Fighters!!

Tomorrow Rocktober will be ended with Top 100 Rock All Times. I'm curious!!

I bought Van Halen's The best of Both Worlds yesterday. It was sold very cheap in one of record stores here. Strange to see that the songs in these CDs are only the ones from Sammy Hagar. David Lee Roth and Gary Cherone are out of the list. It seems like the CDs want to show the real Van Halen, which is with Sammy Hagar, as this article said.

I forgot that today this event took place and broadcasted in Ned.3. I watched it already in the evening, could only watch Sting, Velvet Revolver (consists of ex Guns 'n Roses Slash and Duff McKagan, ex Stone Temple Pilot, Scott Weiland), Robbie Williams, The Who, Mariah Carey, Paul McCartney and Pink Floyd. I missed a lot: Coldplay, Travis, etc.

Only one hour concert, I couldn't get enough of it.

Paradiso ini dulunya gereja, terus diubah jadi tempat konser berskala kecil. Nyampe Paradiso, band pembukanya sudah main, kita cari tempat di balkon, biar bisa liat jelas. Tepat jam 21.00, muncullah JP "Bluey" Maunick dkk. Kalau ditanya anggota Incognito siapa aja, aku gak bisa jawab karena anggota bandnya ganti-ganti, yang pasti otaknya ya satu, si Bluey ini. Gila konsernya keren banget, beberapa lagu dari album baru mereka juga ada. Yang pasti, Don't you worry 'bout a thing, Everyday dan lagu-lagu lama mereka juga dimunculkan. Bluey juga sempet cuap-cuap ke penonton, bawa pesan cinta segala . Dia juga bilang Incognito sedang rekaman album bersama Chaka Khan dan artis jazz lainnya yang uangnya akan disumbangkan untuk korban bencana tsunami .

It's quite relieve for my husband who thinks that Bryan Adams is so rock that he can't handle it. No way. Bryan Adams has soft music, not like my other favorite.

Today I visited the website of Dutch Van Halen and accidently I found a link to a dutch rock radio :Arrow, classic rock radio. I know that this radio exists but I never can catch it from the radio at home. The receiving is very limited. I always forgot about it to check their website or something, but when I found it, it was like a treasure.
Finally, there's a hope for a rock fan like me in this rockpoor country.

I was more enthousiastic to see the concertagenda in the website. Names like Spin Doctors, Europe, Presidents of USA, Kansas and Iron Maiden are scheduled to have concert in this country. Man, how I want to go to Europe concert!!! It will be in March, and the ticket costs €37. Damn!

I haven't seen Van Halen concert in the agenda, I wonder when will it be.

First in 2005

This is my first posting in 2005.
In the end of 2004 until the beginning of 2005 I was in Indonesia, for holiday, for one month!

It was great to be home again, and I bought the cassette of new album from Incognito . In Indonesia cassette is more common than the more expensive CD. Still, the price of CD there is uncomparable than in Europe. That's why my husband bought his Jamie Cullum CD in Indonesia. The price is half price than here!

Anyway, the new album of Incognito (Adventures in black sunshine) is awesome like the ones before. Sometimes I wonder why my music taste is so broad. I like Pearl Jam and Incognito in the same time, while both are completely different music.

Today the internet in our house got crapped, so I decided to do stuffs at home while watching some music DVDs. One of them is from Trijntje Oosterhuis, one of the best female vocalist in Holland. We watched her concert early this year, and she has gorgeous voice.

A lot of artists in Holland go international and you don't realize that they are Dutch. Trijntje is one of them. She used to be popular together with her brother, in their group Total Touch with their songs "Somebody else's lover" and
"I'll say goodbye". They were so popular in Indonesia and nobody thinks that they're Dutch, even me. I was so surprised when I found out. Anyway, there are more than you think and I'll tell you about them, later.

Last Saturday, I found the Van Halen Video Hits got discount and without a doubt, I just bought it.

I watched it the next day, and I found the DVD so interesting. It contains the greatest hits of Van Halen with their three (ex)lead vocalists: David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar and Gary Cherone. The video clips are so nice to see, regarding the fact that I had never seen their video clips before (!) except Human Being and Without You. While watching the DVD, I surfed the internet for news about them and found The Dutch Van Halen Web Site. It was surprising remembering that rock is not so popular in this country.

From that website I saw the news that Sammy Hagar is back to be the lead vocalist of this band. I found this an incredible news! The latest vocalist was Gary Cherone, who used to sing in Extreme, but I think he's not so good in the band, he's just too Extreme. I can't hear Van Halen in him. With Sammy Hagar, Van Halen is just the real Van Halen again, thank God.

And now they are touring in USA, I hope next year they will remember us, their fans in Europe!!! According to the webmaster of The Dutch Van Halen Web Site, Corleen that I emailed after my finding of the website, the band has mentioned that they would have concert in Europe in summer 2005. So, I think I have to save money for the ticket from now on!!

Yesterday we went to the concert of Sting in Antwerpen, Belgium. This song suprises me that If I ever lose my faith in You is not the only religious song from Sting. The lyric remains people who forget God (including me :D) that God is always there when you need Him.

Gegen pengemar berat Sting dan waktu bulan Mei dengar Sting bakal konser di Eropa, setelah gagal dapetin tiket di Rotterdam, akhirnya nyoba hunting tiket ke Belgia dan dapet . Tadinya konser ini bulan Mei. Kita udah sempet booking hotel semalem buat nginep abis konser, eh ternyata Sting-nya sakit tenggorokan . Jadinya konsernya diundur sampe bulan November, ya kemaren ini.

Karena Gegen udah gak punya jatah libur lagi, kita pulang-pergi aja ke tempat konser itu, di Antwerpen, Belgia. Jaraknya lumayan kalau naik mobil, kurang lebih 1,5 jam. Kita berangkat dari sini jam 3, nyampe Antwerp nyari parkiran dan tempat makan yang murah meriah. Kebetulan di depan gedung konser itu ada tempat makan pizza yang lumayan. Kita nyampe sana tepat waktu, karena abis kita masuk, berdatangan orang-orang ke situ yang mungkin bakalan nonton konser setelah makan. Setelah kita selesai makan aja, pelayannya langsung nyodorin bon buat dibayar karena udah banyak orang yang nunggu kursi kita. Gak sopan!

Karena waktu konsernya masih lama, kita jalan-jalan aja muterin daerah deket gedung konser itu. AKhirnya deket-deket waktu buka gedung konser, kita ngantri aja di antrian yang udah panjang. Di dalam gedung, kita nyari tempat kita. Kita dapet tiketnya yang berdiri, karena tiketnya memang sudah sold out. Tempatnya paling atas. Lumayan, daripada berdiri di depan panggung, ketutupan punggung bule-bule jangkung . Lama banget kita nungguin si Sting. Masuk gedung jam 19.00, dia nongol jam 21.30. Ada artis baru yang nongol sebelum dia, jazz gitu.

AKhirnya jam 21.30 Sting nongol juga. Gile konsernya main lampu, bagus banget. Selain itu di latar belakangnya suka ditampilin gambar-gambar bergerak yang bagus banget. Dia tampil dengan seragam item-item berkerah putih. Masih keliatan muda aja tu orang. Suaranya juga masih top lho. Dia nyanyiin beberapa lagu dari album barunya (Send your love, Whenever I say your name, Inside) tapi juga lagu-lagu lama dari jaman The Police kayak Every little thing she does is magic, Every breath you take dan Roxanne. Lagu-lagunya yang lain di antaranya If I ever lose my faith in you, Fields of Gold, Mercury falling, I was brought to my senses, dan favoritku Fragile.
Keseluruhan, konsernya bagus, kecuali pas dia mulai ber-jam session dengan kru bandnya yang lain. Pas lagu Roxanne, lagunya jadi rada bosenin karena dia ber-jazz ria. Selain itu di satu lagu barunya, di latar belakangnya ditampilin cewek yang nari meliuk-liuk. Waduh maksudnya apa tuh, kan kita mau lihat Sting, bukan yang di belakang .
Jadi ingat baca di salah satu koran gratisan di sini, waktu konser Sting di Rotterdam, Sting kayak mencoba jadi seksi dengan menampilkan latar belakang itu. Waduh, Sting, gak usah pake gituan orang juga udah seneng kok liat dan denger kamu nyanyi .
Oya, sayang tu konser Sting di sini, gak sempet keliput sama koran-koran di sini karena bertepatan waktunya dengan pembunuhan Theo van Gogh.

Setelah melihat konser Sting ini, aku baru nyadar ada lagunya yang bernada religius, selain If I ever lose my faith in You, yaitu Whenever I say Your name yang kayaknya lagu cinta (mungkin karena pake duet dengan Mary J. Blidge) tapi sebenarnya lagu rohani. Karena terkesan liriknya, aku muat aja di sini.

Konser kemaren ditutup dengan A thousand years, tentang cinta terpendam. Wih, bikin merinding banget .

It's been a long time since the last time I wrote something in this weblog.
Yesterday something horrible happened. The famous Dutch director, Theo van Gogh, was murdered by a radical moslem man. He was known as a free-minded critical person, although he could be very provocative. A lot of programs which included him was played again on TV, one of them was Wintertijd, a program that invites famous people here to show their expression of music, to tell about their favorite music. One of Theo van Gogh's favorite was The Carpenters. They played The Carpenters' clip from this song. I've heard The Carpenters before, but not really about their music or stuff. When I heard their song, damn, I was suddenly in love with them! Their music was so soft, simple but ooohh... I just can't describe.

So, thanks to Theo van Gogh, I dedicate this song for him...

Since I become a blogger and join this forum, I get a lot of new friends.

Still, I have some old friends that I meet once a while, via chatting room.

There are friends that I still wonder where they are and what they do.
I just want them to know that I'm thinking about them and pray that they are just fine...

If I am fed up with the radio here, I always listen to radio from Yahoo. Often happens, unexpected songs that fades away from the memory or old songs that can bring back memory appear. Like this morning, Van Halen's Love walks in appeared. This song woke me up that my feeling for my husband - then friend- is actually LOVE. We started indeed as friend, he's a friend from my friend.
Slowly we felt attracted to each other and this song really expressed my feeling then. Time rolls so fast, this sunday we'll be celebrating our first wedding anniversary.

There are things that I believe in in this world: that you can only plan your life, but there is always a POWER that will destine whether your plan will come true or not. And that power is GOD. I am not such a religious person, but I believe in hope and faith that's written in each person. In life, you can plan things, try to achieve it, but in the end, it's up to the POWER if you deserve to succeed or not.

These few days were tough, especially yesterday. I was rejected for voluntary work as reader for audio media for blind people (they said my dutch is NOT WITHOUT ACCENT), rejected for 2 jobs for a stupid reason: distance. They said the distance to the future work is too far. Yeah right.
Anyway, people have dreams in their life, so do I. Van Halen has the best description for dreams that haven't come true yet.

Other band that really colors my life is Mr.Big. Supported by one of the best bassist in the world, Billy Sheehan, and the best guitarist, Paul Gilbert (later replaced by Richie Kotzen), this band succeed around the world with their songs as Wild World, To be with you, Goin' where the wind blows and many more. Unfortunately they splitted in 2002, but Billy Sheehan is still active in music industry, just recently this month he gave bass clinic in the Netherlands. Too bad I was late for that. Paul Gilbert lives likely in Japan, while the vocalist Eric Martin is still active as well, success with his solo : I love the way you love me, and still active producing solo albums.

Anyway, this is one of the splitted bands that I wished could go back together and creating great music again.

Talking about great romantic songs (and lyrics), 80's was the best time for it. Hard rock bands sang ballad songs, hard music, but the words are so soft and romantic.

One of them is Bad English. The name doesn't show the quality of the songs from this band at all. Too bad the band broke, but their vocalist, John Waite is still active in music.
One of their songs that I love is Time alone with you. This is not the only song that I like from this band, but to start the later lyrics that will come, I will start with this song.

Yesterday I and my husband went to a cd shop in Arnhem which also sells second hand cds. Unexpectedly I found the second hand cd of Tonic: Sugar. Since it was not expensive at all, I had no hesitate to buy it.

Yesterday after what happened in Indonesia, my country, I was reminded of the song that used to be in an alternative collection that I had. I couldn't remember the name of the band, but I still know that they're from Australia. Not so long browsing (thanks to Google), I could find the band and the song.
The name of the band is Frente and the song is Cuscutlan.
I found it in Launch from Yahoo and I could listen to their songs and bands that related with their music. Been listening to it now, including Weezer, Coldplay, etc. I just got to remember that this band has a nice song, probably their most famous one : Bizarre Love Triangle.

Anyway, Cuscutlan really expresses my feeling about my country. Here it is.

Tonic

After sometimes not buying any cd, last week I decided to order one from my wish list, the latest album of Tonic :Head on straight.
And today the cd arrived.

Whenever I listen to Tonic, I'm always reminded about how I got to loving them. It was around 1997, I was in the third year of my college time. I have a classmate who I always call my 'twin brother' since we were born exactly on the same date and year. His name is Dicky. We both love rock and alternative. We often exchanged our cassettes (yeah, cassettes) to each other. One time there was a conflict between our faculty and other faculty and he was part of it. He was beaten up but thank God he survived. Unfortunately someone took his bag along with my cassette. I don't even remember which one was that. He said sorry and changed that missing cassette with Tonic that he lent me. It was Tonic's first album : Lemon Parade.
I fell in love with their music. It's hard but soft in the same time.
Since then I always follow their music.

Thanks for introducing me to Tonic, Dicky. They're awesome as you are.

I create this weblog to unburden my passion for music, especially rock and alternative. I love nice and touching lyrics, so I will put a lot of lyrics here.

There will also be news or information of my favorite bands: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Tonic, Goo Goo Dolls, etc.

Since I live in Holland, I have so much difficulties to find radio or programme that can fulfill my taste. When I studied in Brussels, there is a huge music library, which could still relieve me from my thirst of rock music. But since I live in Holland, there is only pop garbage music and bands that you can forget in one week. Luckily there is Radio Veronica which plays mostly '80-'90s hits, and I can still at least listening to Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soul Asylum, Toto and other nice music from old times.

If I have ever been to America, my wish is only to visit the concerts of my favorite rock bands.
